How to Use LightKeeper Pro
| The LightKeeper Pro Repair Tool is designed to help solve the problems associated with faulty miniature light sets and bulbs. As with any tool, your understanding of the proper use of it is important for successful use.
The first step to begin the repair of your light set using the LightKeeper Pro is to remove the white tab extending from the black battery compartment door on top of the LightKeeper Pro. This will energize the batteries for use.Quick Fix Trigger: The most common light set failure problem is the result of a defective bulb shunt. The LightKeeper Pro’s revolutionary Patented Quick Fix Piezo Method is the first easy to use portable repair system to fix faulty Miniature Light Bulbs. The Quick Fix Piezo Trigger sends a pulse through a defective light set to repair defective bulb shunts, allowing current to flow and complete the Circuit. Continuity Detector: The Continuity Detector, with the aid of sound indicators, offers a second method to fix your light sets. The Continuity Detector helps find where the power interruption occurs. The point where the power interruption occurs is the source of the problem. NOTE: THE CONTINUITY DETECTOR WORKS BEST IF THE LIGHT SET IS KEPT AS FLAT AND STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE. Bulb and Fuse Tester The LightKeeper Pro provides you with a third way to repair your light sets. You can test individual bulbs and fuses. The Bulb Tester is designed to accommodate miniature light bulbs. With this method you can determine if a defective light bulb is the cause of lightest failure. Replace any bulbs that fail to light. Make sure to do a visual check as you replace the bulbs. This is to verify that the thin copper wire of the bulbs makes a solid connection with the brass contacts in the socket. The Fuse Tester, is designed to check 3 Amp fuses that are supplies with most miniature light sets. The fuses are in the plug of the light sets and are designed as a safety feature to trip if too many light sets are plugged together. A sign that you have a fuse problem is when you notice multiple light sets connected together that do not work. If you believe it is a fuse, remove the fuse from the plug per manufacturers’ instructions. Place the fuse in the Fuse Tester on top of the gun, being sure the fuse touches the metal contacts on either side. If the fuse is good, the RED LIGHT on top of the gun will light. ![]() |
Battery Replacement
The LightKeeper Pro comes with three Alkaline, 1.5 Volt Batteries. The batteries are easy to replace. The black button on top of the LightKeeper Pro that activate the Continuity Detector, is also the battery compartment door.Press forward on the black latch and lift to open. The three batteries are nested together and are easily accessible. When replacing batteries, be sure to put the batteries in according to the diagram shown in the bottom of the battery compartment for proper polarity. The 3 button Cell Batteries power the Bulb and Fuse Tester, as well as the Continuity Detector. Caution: Replace only with Type AG-13, LR1154 or comparable 1.5 Volt Batteries. When replacing batteries:
![]() Light set failure can be traced to an interruption of electricity flowing through the light set.The interruption of flow can be caused by any of the following:
Inspect the light set for any missing bulbs or obvious connection problems. End-to End or String-A-Long Miniature light sets are designed to allow only specific number to be connected together. Most Manufacturers recommend no more than 3 Sets or 300 bulbs total be connected. Connecting more sets together than the Manufacturers recommend will cause the fuse to blow. This is most easily detected because all the light strings connected together will be unlit. If you know this to be the problem, visually check the fuses located in the plug of the light set located closest to the power source. |

Quick Fix Trigger
Most miniature Holiday Light set failures occur when an individual bulb “shunt” fails to energize. These shunts are energized when a filament burns out. This causes a section of lights, usually 35 or 50, to go out instead of just one light bulb. This is because miniature light sets are wired in “series” and electricity must flow through each bulb, to the next, for them to light. The LightKeeper Pro Quick Fix Trigger sends a shaped, electrical pulse through the defective bulb, clearing the shunt. This allows it to operate properly. The current can then flow through the light set completing the circuit and illuminating the other bulbs. The Patented LightKeeper Pro is the first product to FIX defects in a light set with the squeeze of a trigger. Continuity Detector/Voltage Detector Each wall plug has a “Hot”, “Neutral” and “Ground” contact. Electricity is powered from the “Hot” contact and flows through the lights. It is similar to water flowing in a pipe. The LightKeeper Pro Continuity Detector/Voltage Detector uses an IC (Integrated Circuit) chip to find where the flow of electricity stops. It does this by detecting the minute electrical field emanating from the “Hot” wire even when a defect has caused the lights to go out. This electrical field when detected by the LightKeeper Pro, starts the beeping sound and continues as you scan the light string. When the electrical field stops emanating at the defect, the beeping stops. This shows where the problem is in miniature, series light strings. The detector finds the problem spot but the bulb or socket needs to be checked and appropriate repair action taken. The repair action may be securing a loose bulb, or testing a bulb to identify if it needs to be replaced. |
